See his resume at Todd Adkisson—Japanese Translator.
Todd hosts the "Update Japan" page at Twitter. This page presents one news item per day, with the content in both English and Japanese. This allows a learner to consider the subject in both languages for a little practice. News items are based on news seen on reputable Japanese journalistic web sites. Todd writes all the tweets—both the English and Japanese. For a view that does not automatically cycle the tweets, as on the left, see updatejapan at Twitter.
Todd also hosts the "KanjiFind" page at Twitter, to present information about the content and products offered at KanjiFind.com. A ticker is available at KanjiFind Twitter, and for a view that does not cycle the tweets, see kanjifind at Twitter.
Todd grew up in Portland, Oregon. In 1985 he graduated from the University of California—Davis with a major in English Writing and minor in Classical Greek.
His interest in languages led him to study Japanese at the University of Washington in 1990. He then spent five years in Japan, studying while working. He lived in Nagano Prefecture, about 100 miles northwest of Tokyo.
In 1995, Todd returned to Portland, where he has continued to study and translate Japanese. He enjoys hiking, biking and reading.
Early in his experience with the Japanese language, Todd realized that he would learn faster by developing custom materials that addressed specific needs. This began a continuous habit of identifying areas for study and producing materials to effectively foster learning.
These efforts have resulted in products made available on the KanjiFind site: the KanjiFind character dictionaries, the Kanji Learning Today workbooks, the Blue Sea Wordbooks, the Adkisson Method Japanese Accent description, and others. These products may help a second-language student of Japanese to progress much faster than by other methods.
The deep interest Todd has for the Japanese language is shown not only in his work but also in his daily life. He engages in regular activities to boost his reading and speaking abilities.
