This allows students to focus first on practicing the kanji of the early levels without being slowed by intricate study of background concepts. The Quick Start Guide helps students quickly start kanji practice, and when the students are ready for advanced concept study, the Detailed Guide provides a full reference.

The 1006 characters of the workbook are arranged in year levels that match the grades in which the characters are presented in Japanese schools. Reading level increases as the student progresses.
