Blue Sea Wordbooks provide important vocabulary for a corresponding Japanese book. The format is an "ordered glossary", listing vocabulary words in order to match the page and sequence in which the words appear on the page of the original book. This allows quick reference so that reading of the original book can proceed more smoothly.
Each entry presents 3 elements of information in 3 corresponding columns. The first is the kanji representation of the vocabulary word; the second is the reading of the word in hiragana; the third is a brief definition in English. See Wordbook Information for additional details.

A groundbreaking achievement in this literary genre, the story, and the style with which it is told, deliberately set out to appeal to readers rather than force them to slog through supposedly "proper literature". The reward for everyone is a book that is fun to read.
Three young detective wannabes team with a retired professor to solve the disappearance of four child prodigies. Set in an amusement park, the good guys, bad guys, crimes, and sleuthing never lack for an interesting twist.
Soshite Go Nin Ga Inaku Naru was written by Kaoru Hayamine (Mr.) in 1994. It is published by Kodansha (Tokyo). Size of 4.5 x 7.0 inches, paperback, 276 pages, approximately 15 B/W drawings. Original target audience is native Japanese adolescents.

Thank heavens that a new generation of writers has finally been let into the Japanese literary world! This writer showed publishers that books will sell when they are interesting and use real-world language. It is truly refreshing.
While a story forms part of the style, good writing has inventive elements of that make reading enjoyable. This book scores with characters, mannerisms, dialog, action, and narrative. A distinctive snoop (modern, sloppy, arrogant, wry, young-at-heart Sherlock Holmes rival) is only one of many possible examples.
It may take time for many non-native readers to catch on to the pioneering achievements of this book. Depending on their reading experience, they may consider stories with well-integrated humor par for the course. But in Japan it is rare like diamonds. Some character traits and plot twists in this book make English writers look boring!
